The MARGARET Fund
May All Resolve Girls Achieve Real Equity Today
Our Mission
The MARGARET Fund was inspired by Margaret Larkin, daughter of Deborah and John Larkin. Margaret grew up 22 years after the landmark Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 became law. Margaret, her schoolmates, and girls across the country have experienced increased opportunities in education. However, many real barriers to equal opportunities still exist in all corners of the United States, especially among girls of color and LBGTQ+ students in rural and underserved communities. Sadly, equity has not been achieved, even 50+ years after the passage of Title IX.
Since 1992 The MARGARET Fund has supported a wide range of programs that promote education about and compliance with Title IX; these programs help ensure that the law that requires every educational institution receiving federal funding to provide equity in all aspects of education actually keeps its promise. Areas of support include research studies; education initiatives; program interventions; support for policy solutions; and sports, health, and childcare initiatives at educational institutions and non-profit advocacy organizations across the country.
The goals are simple and clear:
1) Expand the possibilities for girls and women in education and employment and
2) Ensure that the nation’s laws protect women’s health and provide economic security for them and their families.

In The Spotlight:
The International Tennis Hall of Fame Open
We are proud to sponsor the International Tennis Hall of Fame (ITHF) Open in Newport, RI. Each summer some of the world’s best tennis players meet on the grass courts of Newport for the Hall of Fame Open to vie for the Van Alen Cup. The MARGARET Fund is helping the ITHF make history by requiring that the WTA purse to be equal to the required ATP purse, in support of gender pay equity.
